Some treatments may only available within private dentistry, such as white fillings on back teeth, dental implants and tooth whitening.
Unlike NHS dentistry, there are no nationally-set fees for private dental care. Instead, dental practices set their fees according to where they are based, what facilities they offer and whether the dentists are specialists in particular fields. The BDA recommends that practices should provide patients with a written indicative price list to give guidance as to how much treatments may cost. Similarly, when suggesting a course of treatment, the dentist should give patients a price estimate for them to consider before the treatment begins.
To help you plan for the cost of private dental treatment, many practices offer capitation plans, like Denplan. You may also wish to take out your own dental insurance. . Some companies also offer cash plans, where you pay a certain amount each month are able to claim back a percentage of the cost of your dental – and other health – bills.
